Therefore, the UX of opening and reading the sleeve, the box, and the inserts are all taken into account when designing the packaging.

Packaging of ShiftCam ProGrip is the key to attracting customers and communicating what the product is in a retail store. The unboxing experience is also a fundamental part of branding.

Design Problem

The purpose of the sleeve is to attract potential customers and persuade them to purchase. One design problem of sleeve design is that ProGrip is a multifunctional product; information would be hard to consume when all the features are communicated at once to people who never hear of the product. Hence, features are categorized into primary and secondary levels. Information is arranged based on the UX of interacting with the sleeve.

Primary features:

Major reasons for purchasing the product

Secondary features:

Bonus features that not everyone mainly cares about or uses, but good to have them

Therefore, the UX of opening and reading the sleeve, the box, and the inserts are all taken into account when designing the packaging.

Packaging UX

The flippable sleeve contains six panels for graphic design, excluding the top and the bottom panels.

Starting to read from the front panel, customers usually rotate the box to the back panel clockwise. The two left and right panels could, unfortunately, be missed easily. If they are interested, they will open the flap to read more information.

Front Panel

The front panel introduces ProGrip is a mobile ergonomic battery grip for shooting through a product one-liner and icons. The hero image crosses two panels so that it stands out from the shelf.

Back Panel

By showing user scenarios, the back panel justifies that ProGrip provides balance and stability (the primary feature of ergonomic design), is rotatable (feature of portrait mode), and allows you to shoot for a whole day (feature of wireless charging).

Side Panels

Not everyone reads the sides panels and the inner panels. Only those who have interest to purchase and desire for product details pay attention to them. Consequently, more supporting information that convinces ProGrip fits the potential customer are brought up here, such as compatibility, specifications, and secondary features.

Inner Panels

The testimonial on the inner left panel serves as a social proof to elevates the credibility of ProGrip. On the right-hand panel, it shares that same product shot angle as what is on the cover but it presents more thoughtful design detail that convinces people to buy the product.

Box

Removing the sleeve, customers see the black box with UV printing. Inside the box cover, it is a bright mood shot shinning from the darkness and creating a great contrast. It helps to create a "wow" effect.

Inserts

Inside the box, there is a paper tray (with silver printing of a thank you message) on top of the product. The first thing to be seen is the envelope which contains a set of inserts, including the warranty card, user manual and ecosystem booklet.
